Tour of Sensoji Temple

Sensoji Temple

is the oldest temple in Tokyo, located in Asakusa 2-chome, Taito-ku, Tokyo.

Sensoji Temple is the oldest temple in Tokyo with a history of nearly 1,400 years. It began in the Asuka Period. It is said that in the 36th year of Emperor Suiko (628), fishermen brothers picked up a Buddha statue caught in a net, and thereafter turned their private home into a temple, where they worshipped and offered offerings for the rest of their lives.

Many people probably think of "Kaminarimon" when they think of Asakusa. The Kaminarimon, a very popular tourist attraction, is the main gate of Sensoji Temple, and its official name is "Fu-raijinmon (Gate of the Wind and Thunder Gods).

After passing through the Kaminarimon, a straight road leads toward the main hall of Sensoji Temple. This is the famous Asakusa Nakamise Dori, the oldest shopping street in Tokyo. Asakusa Nakamise Dori is crowded every day as the best shopping paradise in Asakusa, where the good old downtown atmosphere remains.

Eating Monjayaki

Monjayaki

is a local food that originated in Tokyo, Japan, where loosely melted flour is cooked on a griddle and eaten.

Compared to okonomiyaki, it is characterized by the greater amount of water used in the dough and the seasonings and sauces that are sometimes mixed in. It is usually eaten with a small spatula while sizzling on a teppan (iron plate).

Originally eaten as a snack, Monjayaki is said to have become Mojiyaki, or Monja-yaki, when loose dough was used to write letters on the griddle while cooking. In Tokyo, there are numerous Monjayaki restaurants, mainly in Asakusa and Tsukishima, and there are many variations. Monjayaki has become a popular item for tourists visiting Tokyo.

If you're going to eat, you want a delicious Monjayaki, right? Here are some stores that my siblings and I  recommend.
