I took a trip to Miyazu, Kyoto again during the fine autumn season!

This time, I stayed at "Charoku Bekkan," a long-established ryokan (Japanese-style inn), and would like to report on my experience 👍.

Charoku Bekkan" is a very long-established ryokan that has been in business for 300 years.

Mr. Rokuji Chatani, who built the Charoku Bekkan, visited Japanese-style buildings all over the country to complete this ryokan!

I wonder what the rooms and cuisine are like in such a long-established ryokan 😁.

In this article, I would like to introduce you to the rooms and cuisine at the Chayaroku Bekkan, a long-established ryokan in Miyazu✨.

In conclusion, as you would expect from a ryokan with such a long history, you can enjoy an emotional Japanese atmosphere in your room as well as throughout the ryokan✨!

Also, the delicate, innovative, and elaborate artisanal cuisine will make you almost fall off your cheeks. You can also enjoy the dishes that go well with local sake, which you should take the time to savor. ❗️

By the way, I love to travel, both in Japan and abroad, and have stayed in many different cities and hotels!

This article will give you an idea of the actual room atmosphere, service, and what kind of food and drinks you can enjoy at the long-established ryokan Charoku Bekkan.

What kind of Ryokan is Charoku Bekkan?

Features of Charoku Bekkan

As I mentioned at the beginning of this blog, Charoku Bekkan is a long-established ryokan with a 300-year history. They say it is built in the Japanese architectural style called sukiya-zukuri!

Originally, small tea rooms were called sukiya.

Wabi-Sabi" is well-known when it comes to tea ceremony, but this is a simple yet sophisticated style.

I am a bit unfamiliar with the difficult details, but what I felt was that it featured elegant, old-fashioned architecture, which made me feel as if I had been transported back in time a bit.

When you enter the inn, it is like a different space. The lack of unnecessary things kept the space calm and blank, allowing you to relax and take your time.

The courtyard seen from the room. It is really quiet😇.

And you can also see the courtyard from the lobby, but this is again a different garden from the one you can see from your room✨.

Once in the inn, you can't see or hear the road or any other sights or sounds, so I felt like a special space was created for me!

The room we stayed in this time was "Hagoromo" of "Kai-no-Ma" ✨.

What is the Hagoromo room in the Kai-no-Ma?

The Hagoromo room is located on the second floor. The layout of the room was 10 tatami mats in the main room, 3 tatami mats in the secondary room, and a large screened porch.

From the porch, we could see the garden ✨.

The room is pure Japanese style, tatami mats. But it was a very comfortable space with a chair to sit on.

There was also a lovely sized tokonoma (alcove) with flowers.

Like the ryokan itself, there really is nothing too useless.

The only things in the room are tea, a yukata for going to the onsen, and a towel.

I think the best purpose is to be healed by the onsen, enjoy the food and relax.

By the way, Wifi was available in each room.

The onsen is on the first floor, but there is a small bath in the room.

If you take a bath in the hot spring, you will hardly use it, but the interior was cute with a bit of Showa-era retro feel.

The washroom was fully equipped with everything you need, including a hair dryer and toothbrush!

One of the amenities that made me a little happy was the basic cosmetics set ✨.

And the fact that they have one set for women and one set for men is a high point!

They also have a place to put accessories, which is a nice little touch.

Miyazu Onsen "Pinto Hot Spring"

After arriving and spending a little time in our room, we headed straight to the hot springs!

The hot spring at Charoku Bakkan is called Miyazu Onsen "Pinto Hot Spring". In this language, "pinto" means "beautiful.

They call it a "hot spring for beautiful skin" because of its sulfuric content!

I also enjoyed the hot spring and the water was smooth and made my skin smooth ✨.

There is also an open-air bath, but the water in the open-air bath was quite firm and hot 🔥.

The men's and women's baths change in the morning and at night, so you can enjoy both baths.

Dinner "Kyoto-style Kaiseki" at "Charoku Bekkan"

One of the delights of staying at the Charoku Bekkan is the Kyoto-style kaiseki that only a ryokan can offer ✨.

All of the dishes we had during our stay were absolutely delicious! This time we had dinner in the "Hagoromo" room where we stayed.

Here is the menu we got this time, from when we were there in September.

Let's start with the appetizers✨

All the dishes were seasoned in a way that did not interfere with the ingredients, and each dish was gorgeously tasted.

Among them, the dish that I thought "interesting is this persimmon!

Can you guess what this is?

It is the yolk of an egg. The leaves are kelp. It is small but very elaborate. The combination of the kelp and the yolk is rich, and the flavor of the kelp escapes your nose ✨.

The steamed dish in an earthen jar was full of luxurious ingredients such as matsutake mushrooms and hamo (pike conger).

The mitsuba and the vinegared fruit are a symphony of flavors ✨.

It's not the kind of dish you can gobble down, but I did!

Three kinds of sashimi caught in Miyazu. The freshness of the fish is very different because it was caught so close to the sea.

It was so tender and the flavor melted easily on my tongue. This is the kind of taste you can only get from being so close to the ocean.

I had a family member who cannot eat raw fish, so I informed them of her allergy in advance.

Then they changed the dish to this one. It's sea bream boiled in soy sauce. Thank you ✨

I could never finish such an elegant taste at home." (a voice inside my heart came out).

I was so happy to eat that I forgot to take a picture of the local fish shabu shabu.

The fried fish was also served with crispy green tea salt.

One of the fried dishes that was very interesting was the fig ✨.

I've never had deep fried figs before, but these slightly warm, sweet, deep fried figs, in my opinion, were so good! More like a dessert than a meal.

After having the fragrant food and rice, we ended the meal with dessert.

this collaboration of jelly, grapes & muscat was delicious ✨.

The jelly is very smooth on the palate and disappears and disappears quickly. But it's flavored just enough to taste the sweetness of the muscat and grapes ✨.

Along with the meal, we also got some local sake!

We had quite a few from the Mukai Sake Brewery in Ine Town, but I enjoyed the "Kyo no Haru" sake served cold. It went perfectly with the ryokan's Kyoto-style kaiseki.

Feeling full and comfortable, I fell asleep right away that night.

What's on the breakfast menu?

Then morning ☀️ breakfast was served at the breakfast room.

Breakfast is Japanese food that is gentle to the stomach. I ate a lot of good food last night, so it was just the right amount!

The food was gentle to the stomach, such as boiled tofu, grilled fish, and rice porridge. After all, we are near the sea, so the fish tastes very good.

You can have a relaxing breakfast in a spacious area.

The final dish was a dessert of pears topped with yogurt. The juicy pears matched the refreshing yogurt.

The dessert ideas served by "Charoku Bekkan" were all novel and something I have never had at other ryokans ✨.

Summary

At Charoku Bekkan, you can stay at a hot spring ryokan while enjoying delicious cuisine when traveling in Miyazu, Kyoto ✨.

The ryokan itself has a history of 300 years. With a bit of history, I had a feeling it would be pretty cold in the winter, but that won't be a problem if you take the time to warm up in the hot spring!

  • A long-established ryokan with an emotional atmosphere built over 300 years ago
  • The cuisine is especially elaborate and exquisite!
  • Pinto hot spring "for beautiful skin ✨"!

The food in particular was very inventive ✨

There are many dishes that are inventive and enjoyable, but the flavors of the ingredients are used to their fullest.
