This time, I would like to introduce the "B-Grade Gourmet" version of the Hiroshima local cuisine that we enjoyed when we went to Hiroshima👍.

There were so many delicious local dishes in Hiroshima. Among them, of course, there are plenty of easy-to-eat B-Grade Gourmet!

Five Hiroshima local B-Grade Gourmet recommendations

Hiroshima Station has a restaurant area that looks like "Hiroshima's local gourmet food all in one place. The name of the restaurant area is "ekie".

Just by looking at the entrance, you can see that the restaurants have already been fully promoted.

This is what it looks like as soon as you enter "ekie".

Hiroshima is famous for its Okonomiyaki! As soon as we entered Hiroshima by Shinkansen 🚅, we decided to eat Okonomiyaki.

Okonomiyaki "Reichan"

The name "Reichan" is written in big red letters on the noren, so it's very easy to spot!

Since we were going to eat Okonomiyaki in Hiroshima, we did our homework.

Among the restaurants, the reviews of "Reichan" were quite good, so we decided to enter "Reichan" without hesitation.

I arrived at the restaurant before 12:00 p.m., but there was already a line of customers waiting to get in.

However, I was able to be seated without having to wait for a long time because of the fast turnover of customers.

I was wondering what to order.

I had the special.

I ordered the cheese.

This is the special.

The special was filled with 🦑 squid and 🦐 shrimp.

The special I ordered this time was made with Japanese squid from Nagasaki Prefecture, so it was very plump and juicy👍!

Squid, awesome!

This is the cheese.

The cheese was not too thick and matched the Okonomiyaki just right. When hot, the cheese is 🧀 stringy and a little thicker. I recommend this to those who like their Okonomiyaki with a little twist!

They have a wide variety of Okonomiyaki, so check the menu in advance so you don't have to worry!

We also added the "Motsuni-nikomi" (offal stew).

The restaurant also recommended this dish, and the seasoning was just right, not too rich! Chopsticks went quickly and were gone in no time.

Rei-chan has a variety of sauces. We tried three different kinds. We tried three different kinds.

Our favorite was the "spicy" sauce.(Orange bottle)

However, all the sauces were rich, mild, and easy to eat. They also have pepper and a dash of spice on hand, so we were able to enjoy our large Okonomiyaki to our heart's content while changing the flavors 👍.

Deep fried maple manju at Momiji-do

Hiroshima is famous for its momiji manju, or "maple manju!"

In Hiroshima, they fry up these momiji-manju in the store. I ordered one just to see what it tasted like.

They fry them right in front of you and you can eat them right there. When they handed it to me, they put it in a wrapping paper.

In this way, the momiji manju is stuck on a stick for easy eating.

They fried momiji manju with  pancake mix-like mixture. When I tried it, the outside was crispy and the inside was like a freshly made bun with warm red bean paste.

I actually wasn't expecting the flavor to be that great before ordering it, but it was delicious and much better than I had expected.

It is a good snack when you are a little hungry 👍I hope you feel cheated and try it at least once when you come to Hiroshima!

Momiji-do is also located in "ekie".

Soupless dandan noodles "King Ken" in Hondori branch

Next, we took the Hiroshima Electric Railway to Hiroshima City🚃.

We passed through the shopping district of Hiroshima and headed to ........

Soupless dandan noodles "King Ken" in Hondori branch.

An information lady in the staion recommeded this restaurant to us.

I had no idea until my trip this time that Hiroshima was famous for its "good cheap eats" soupless dandan noodles!

The restaurant is marked by this gorilla 🦍.

There seem to be many different kinds of dandan-men👍.

This time I ordered the most orthodox plain tantanmen without soup.

What makes King Keken's dantanmen so special is the sansho(Japanese pepper)! The spiciness of "spicy" is "sansho spiciness," but the flavor is so good that I think it is irresistible to those who love sansho.

Plus, you can choose the level of spiciness, from 0 to 4 spiciness.

Anyway, the rule of thumb for soupless dandanmen is to mix it up! You must mix it at least 30 times!

There are instructions on how to eat it in front of the counter, so be sure to check it out ✨.

Musashibo Hatchobori

Next, we went to Musashibo Hatchobori.

After all, soupless dandanmen seems to be very popular among Hiroshima residents ✨.

Musashibo is also one of the most popular "soupless dandan noodles" restaurants👍.

There are two types of dandan noodles on the menu: "soy sauce base" and "sesame base". We were intrigued by the "sesame base" and decided to order that one.

Here is the "sesame base" soupless dandan noodle!

Musashibo also offers a choice of "spiciness" from 0 to 5.

We chose 1 and 3 spicy!

Sorry the picture doesn't look realistic, but we had to mix this one more than 30 times!

It's a sesame paste, so it's pretty hard to mix! But the sesame aroma is very good and appetizing.

It's like a marriage of creamy sesame seeds and spiciness.

I had the 3 spicy ones, and I can't get enough of the spiciness on a hot day!

Musashibo also has sansho on hand for garnish. There are three types of sansho here. The restaurant also has explanations of Chinese spices written on the wall. The pepper is a little bit Asian flavorful.

The rule of tantanmen without soup is to mix it anyway, so the soup will run out.

Okonomiyaki "Micchan"

For our last lunch in Hiroshima, we chose "Okonomiyaki"!

It starts and ends with Okonomiyaki. It was the perfect plan to enjoy Hiroshima!

The goodwill of "Micchan" is black! Also located in "ekie" directly connected to Hiroshima Station!

This is a comfortable place to have a quick Okonomiyaki before the Shinkansen. We are very grateful to "ekie" this time.

At Micchan,

I had oyster soba.
I ordered the DX Special Soba.
Rebecca
Rebecca

This is oyster soba.

This is the DX Special Soba.

Both were surprisingly voluminous and too big to eat.

Hiroshima Okonomiyaki contains buckwheat noodles, so even though I ordered one portion, I felt there was enough for two people!

The Okonomiyaki at Micchan had more texture from the vegetables such as bean sprouts and cabbage compared to Reichan's Okonomiyaki.

At Micchan, there is an "Otafuku Sauce" called "Red Fire Sauce".

I had never seen Otafuku Sauce like this before, so I guess it's the real Hiroshima! It was a little spicy.

You have to pay in advance and get a meal ticket, so it's best to decide what you want to eat before you go!

There is always a long line of people waiting to get in. If you know the time of your Shinkansen, make sure to leave a little extra time.

  • Soupless dandan noodle  at a popular restaurant
  • Fried Momiji Manju for a rest and a snack!
