You often end up choosing a place near Kyoto Station, no matter what.

Want something a little different from your usual stay in Kyoto?

For those of you who are looking for something different, I would like to share with you a review of my stay at Moxy Kyoto, which opened this July, and from the perspective of convenience for sightseeing in Kyoto.

Bottom line, the stylish and casual Moxy Kyoto Nijo is cosy and well located for sightseeing!

By the way, I am a Kyoto kid from birth until now.  I have been a Kyoto native since birth and have given more than 10 tours of Kyoto every year to friends in Japan and abroad. I also love to travel, so I have stayed in many different hotels.

Based on this experience, I will tell you about the features of Moxy Kyoto Nijo in an easy-to-understand manner, along with the perspective of its tourist location.

By reading this article, you will be able to see how and why Moxy Kyoto Nijo is conveniently located and ideal for sightseeing.

[Moxy Kyoto Nijo Kyoto] Staying at Moxy Kyoto Nijo Kyoto. Great location for sightseeing in Kyoto!

Access from Kyoto Station to Moxy Kyoto Nijo

The nearest station to Moxy Kyoto Nijo is Nijo Station. Nijo Station is very convenient, only 3 stops from Kyoto Station on the JR Sagano Line.

POINT

  • Only 5 minutes from Kyoto Station, the gateway to Kyoto, by JR line.
  • From Nijo Station, only 3 minutes on foot!
  • There is also a subway station for convenient access to Kyoto City
  • Nijo Castle, a famous sightseeing spot, is within walking distance. Kinkakuji Temple is also easily accessible by bus.

In fact, Nijo Station is also served by a subway line, and you can reach Karasuma and Kawaramachi, the central districts of Kyoto, in 5 minutes by subway.

For dinner or lunch, try one of the recommended restaurants in Karasuma or Kawaramachi that locals recommend.

You can also walk to Nijo Castle, a World Heritage Site. Isn't it luxurious to be able to walk to the World Heritage site while relaxing at the hotel?

The famous Kinkakuji Temple is only 15 minutes away by bus. It may take more than an hour to go to Kinkakuji Temple by bus from Kyoto Station, depending on traffic conditions.

Moxy Kyoto Nijo, Lobby

Once you step into the hotel, inside is a modern casual world.

There's a stylish bar in the back of the lobby with lots of cute flamingos!

And Moxie's customary giant bears. It looks like two people cuddling and whispering to each other.

The beauty of Moxy is this modernity. As expected of a Marriott affiliate! It's the kind of vibe you'd expect from a foreign-affiliated hotel!

And it's also nice that the hotel is full of playfulness the moment you enter.

Moxy Kyoto Nijo, a look at the guest room

This is the room we stayed in this time.

This time the room is a Ume Standard.

There are three room grades at Moxy Nijo.

  • Ume Standard
  • Momiji Select
  • Sakura Premium

Since I have an Marriott Amex card, I asked if I could upgrade my room, but since it was high season for sightseeing in Kyoto (late November), I could not upgrade my room this time. Too bad....

When you enter the room, there is a big bed, but the room is spacious without feeling oppressive.

To save space in the room, the TV is wall-mounted and the desk is foldable! The box-like thing in front of the chair is actually a desk.

The bathroom is shower only, no bathtub. There was a proper chair to sit on! Is there enough space for a shower only? I think so.

One disadvantage I felt was the shampoo and conditioner in the amenities.

As a woman, I think it would be nice to have a full line of hotel shampoo-related products, but the one at Moxy Kyoto Nijo was a rinse-in shampoo type that comes complete in one bottle.

Also, there are no basic cosmetics related items, so please bring your own.

And in the potty corner, there was coffee, tea, and two bottles of free bottled water in the bathroom.

Of course, but coffee tastes better in the lobby. Here is the coffee I ordered from the bar at the front desk in the morning.

And the pictures on the wall are playful and yet very Kyoto-like!

Welcome drink available

If you have an Marriott AMEX card, you are eligible for Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite membership, and as a Gold Elite member, you can enjoy a free welcome drink at the bar in the lobby.

We ordered "Moxie Pink" and "Kyo DE Tropical" this time.

Kyo DE Tropical is a cocktail only available in Kyoto Nijo. It was so soft and easy to drink that I wanted to have another one just like it.

The bar is open 24 hours, so you can use it at your favorite time.

Conclusion

Bottom line, the stylish and casual Moxy Kyoto Nijo is cosy and well located for sightseeing!

  • Easy access from Kyoto Station, the gateway to Kyoto, and to famous tourist attractions and the city center!
  • Modern casual atmosphere and compact rooms with a good amount of space!
  • Enjoy a welcome drink at the bar open 24 hours a day.

Please enjoy a comfortable stay in Kyoto!
