Whenever I visit Okinawa, I always eat Okinawan soba. Each restaurant has its own personality and charm, and every time I go to Okinawa next time I want to eat delicious Okinawan soba again.
But if you go there, don't you want to try Okinawan soba that you can't eat anywhere else?
Mukashi Mukashi Soba is an Okinawan traditional noodle shop that makes its own noodles in wood ash, allowing you to enjoy noodles made in the traditional, natural way.
Everything is handmade, not only the noodles, but also the soup, vegetables, meat and even the tables and bowls.
A particularly recommended soba dish is the ‘Vegetable Soba’, which uses an abundance of seasonal vegetables picked in the morning from the field behind the restaurant. Depending on the weather and the season, what vegetables are served changes from day to day, so it's a treat to try it after you've been there.
Incidentally, I have been in the travel industry for about 20 years. I have always researched and used various services and trends in travel, both for work and in my private life.
I also like travelling to Okinawa and go there at least once a year to try different kinds of Okinawan noodles.
Based on this experience, I will tell you more about Mukashi Mukashi Soba, where you can eat Okinawan soba noodles with plenty of island vegetables.

Exterior and interior of Mukashi Mukashi Soba
Mukashi Mukashi Soba is located in Nago City, Okinawa Prefecture. Take Prefectural Road 84 north, past Nago Pineapple Park, and it takes about two to three minutes to get there.
We had lunch here after playing at Nago Pineapple Park.
This is the outside of the restaurant. It has a tasteful atmosphere.
The warmth of the wood in the shop.
Everything from the interior to the tables and chairs is handmade!
As well as table seating, there was also seating in the tatami room. Behind the window of the tatami room seats, a field where island vegetables are grown spreads out.
Inside the restaurant, teacups and plates are displayed and sold. Even the dishes and teacups used to serve Okinawa soba are handmade!
On the terrace with a sunken hearth leading from the shop, there is also a corner with a large special price cup for 500 yen.
We also bought a teacup from the big discount corner. It is said that it is a big discount because there is a reason, but it is hard for a layman to tell which part is a reason.
The colonised appearance is cute.
The inside of Mukashi Mukashi Soba has a somewhat relaxing atmosphere, just like the name of the restaurant suggests.
What's on the menu at Mukashi Mukashi Soba?
Here is the menu of Mukashi Mukashi Soba.
This is the Okinawa soba menu. The recommended vegetable soba is easy to image with pictures. There is also a soba set that includes the standard Sanmainiku Soba, Soki Soba and a variety of dishes to enjoy with Okinawa soba.
The menu here is an oddity. Hija (goat) rice and spicy hotpot soba. The goats used for the Hija (goat) soba and rice are also raised on pasture.
There are so many different types of Hija (goat) dishes that many regulars come for the hija soba.
There was also a large menu list in the restaurant.
The ‘Vegetable Soba.’
Here is what we actually ate.
Adults went for the recommended ‘Island Vegetable Soba’.
All vegetables are colourful, aromatic, tasty and nutritious! Depending on the weather and the season, what vegetables are available changes from day to day, so it's a pleasure to go there.
In autumn and winter, the noodles are kneaded with red potatoes and are a light purple colour. In spring and summer, the noodles are green with bitter gourd kneaded into them.
The children ordered a small bowl of Sanmainiku soba (without spring onions). We were also provided with children's tableware.
Mukashi Mukashi Soba's noodles are made with traditional Okinawan wood-ash homemade noodles, using a traditional, natural process.
The noodles were thick, firm and satisfying. It was a perfect match for the light but rich soup!
To our delight, when you order one dish per person, a dessert is included in the service!
This time we had jelly. This is also handmade and the one served changes with the seasons.
